Debit card fees and limits

Activate and protect your card

You'll need to activate your card before you can use it.

Insert your debit card into any HSBC ATM, Bersama ATM, Prima ATM, Link ATM, Alto ATM, Visa Plus ATM or MasterCard / Cirrus ATM worldwide. Then:

Enter your PIN and select 'balance inquiry' - you can also choose your own unique PIN for additional security (HSBC ATMs only)
Once complete, your card will be ready to use

Call 1500 808 (HSBC Advance customers) or 1500 700 (HSBC Premier customers) and follow the voice prompts.

Debit card request for a foreign currency account

Customers can open a multi-currency account with foreign currency (MCA-FCY) in branch, calling the Contact Centre or through the HSBC Indonesia app.

If the account is opened through a branch or Contact Centre, our staff will be able to help.

When opening a new MCA-FCY, customers should fund the account by making an initial deposit in the same currency as the MCA-FCY currency. Once opened customers have 2 options to request a debit card, as shown below:

Customer can request new debit card through a branch
The MCA-FCY will be the primary account for the new debit card
When the card is received by the customer, they may activate it - refer to the 'Activating your card' section for instructions
After the debit card has been activated, it can be used for shopping, balance enquiries, cash withdrawal and transfers using the MCA-FCY

Example: a customer opens an MCA-FCY with USD through mobile banking. This MCA-FCY needs to be funded in USD. The customer can transfer funds from their existing IDR account which are automatically exchanged to USD once transferred to the MCA-FCY with USD. Customer requests new debit card from a branch. MCA-FCY will be linked as the debit card's primary account which makes the debit card the main account in USD. When customer receives the new debit card, it will require activation in an ATM. After card is activated, customer can enjoy shopping or any other transaction using USD without getting any exchange rate[@visa-interchange-fee].

If a customer already owns a debit card and doesn't want another debit card, they may request to link it to their MCA-FCY through the Contact Centre or in branch
MCA-FCY will be linked as the secondary account in the existing debit card
After the debit card has been linked with the MCA-FCY, customer can check it's been successfully linked at an HSBC ATM in Indonesia - select 'balance enquiry' and check if MCA-FCY is available
Once debit card has been linked with MCA-FCY, customer can access their MCA-FCY through HSBC ATMs worldwide - it can be used for enquiries, cash withdrawals and transfers as long as the customer chooses the corresponding MCA-FCY account at the ATM (the MCA-FCY can't be accessed for EDC / POS swipe transactions and online shopping using the debit card)

Example: a customer opens an MCA-FCY with USD through mobile banking. This MCA-FCY needs to be funded in USD. The customer can transfer funds from their existing IDR account which are automatically exchanged to USD once transferred to the MCA-FCY with USD. The customer already owns a debit card with their IDR account as the card's primary account and doesn't want another debit card. The customer requests to link their MCA-FCY in USD to be linked with the existing debit card. The MCA-FCY will be linked as the secondary account. Once the link is requested the customer can link the MCA-FCY through an HSBC ATM in Indonesia. Select 'balance enquiry' and check MCA-FCY availability. When MCA-FCY is finally linked, the MCA-FCY in the related debit card can only be accessed through HSBC ATMs worldwide and can't be used for direct purchasing.

Bank Indonesia requires chip technology and 6-digit PIN for all debit cards issued in Indonesia.

Chip technology uses a unique code for each transaction so a merchant can't save your card number and account number.
