HSBC Celebrates Earth Day, Giving Out 370 Biopore Tools For Schools
*Supports Jakarta’s Government program to socialize BIOPORE campaign to young Indonesians*
 

HSBC celebrates Earth Day 2010 by giving out 370 BIOPORE tools to Regional Environmental Management Agency for Jakarta City (Badan Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup Daerah - BPLHD) which then given to schools in Jakarta area. The action also supports Jakarta’s Government program to socialize BIOPORE campaign to Jakarta citizen, especially the young generation. The ceremonial event is held today at Semanggi Park, Jakarta and attended by Tatiek Bowo, Biopore Ambassador,  Penny Susanti, Head of Regional Environmental Management Agency for Jakarta City and Javier Salgado, Head of Retail Banking HSBC Indonesia.

Javier Salgado, Head of Retail Banking HSBC Indonesia said:”HSBC actively continue to voice out the importance of tackling climate change issue and the environmental issue in general. As we are celebrating Earth Day 2010 we would like to call for everyone’s action to give a real contribution for Jakarta’s environment. We hope the 370 BIOPORE tools donated today can be used by schools, BPLHD units and Jakartans to make biopores in their neighborhood thus we all can be part of the action to reduce flood in Jakarta. More over, as part of our corporate sustainability commitment, we continuously involve our stakeholder including staff and customers to be part of the solution to make Jakarta a better place to live.”

HSBC donation of 370 BIOPORE is part of credit card point rewards donation called Dana Amal Kasih, where customer can donate their point rewards for charity programs coordinated by HSBC. Until April 2010, the fund collected through Dana Amal Kasih has reached IDR74,598,493.50 and it is used to purchase the BIPORE tools.

Penny Susanti, Head of Regional Environmental Management Agency for Jakarta City, said:”Environmental issue is complex which requires collective effort from every element in the society. Today we witness a demonstration of an excellent synergy among the government, corporation, NGO, media to build an environmental conscious movement to make Jakarta a better place to live. BPLHD consistently encourages BPLHD units, schools and Jakartans to make more biopores or other actions which lead to cleanliness of Jakarta.

Biopore for Our Jakarta which was held by HSBC start from 8AM until 11AM in Semanggi park – which has been claimed as one of Jakarta’s green zones. The Earth Day celebration includes several activities such as talk show, leaflet distribution, music and entertainment with strong messages on biopore benefits. HSBC also bring more than 50 staff who volunteer to take part in making the BIPORE holes in Semanggi Park.
