Wherever we operate, we play a constructive, responsible role in aligning our objectives with those of the local community. Every country and territory where we operate has its own character, history and aspirations, and HSBC believes that involving our employees in the community brings many benefits. Our employees gain in understanding, confidence and self-esteem, and being recognised in the community as good corporate citizens and employers helps HSBC to attract great people who in turn can provide great service to our customers.
HSBC Kita endeavours to support and help local communities through the involvement of employees and the provision of grants. Programmes aim to both sustain and encourage growth in long-established Indonesian traditions, from arts and crafts to dance, and to provide care and encourage community spirit amongst the sick and the underprivileged.
We are working closely with the Losari Foundation to support communities in Central Java, where we donated IDR 300 million for the construction and renovation of traditional dance schools, gamelan music schools and in order to support the Losari traditional vocal group. The funds are expected to contribute towards the preservation of the local cultural heritage and the development of the Losari Coffee plantation area as a tourist attraction.
We are also committed to supporting Indonesian small and medium-sized businesses through the Made in Indonesia project. HSBC sponsored the launch of a new book entitled Made in Indonesia, written by Warwick Purser. The book is dedicated to the craftsmen of Indonesia, whose skills and talents have successfully turned Indonesian natural resources and cultural heritage into wonderful products that represent Indonesia in international markets at leading retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Macy's, Ralph Lauren and Harrods
Under the supervision of the GKR Hemas Foundation, HSBC Kita was able to get involved with helping three very worthwhile causes. In support of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, IDR 120 million was provided to build a hospital for cancer patients in Yogyakarta. Funds were also provided to aid orphanages under Sayap Ibu Foundation, and to improve elderly home facilities under Wredha Mulya Foundation.
Keeping the Faith
HSBC Kita holds an annual Lebaran/Christmas Donation program, inviting local orphans to visit the HSBC head office and meet HSBC staff in person.
For Moslems, this is usually a fast-breaking gathering for children from a local orphanaged, which also received an educational aid package from HSBC.
Ability for The Disable
HSBC also gives funds to Wisma Cheshire, an organization which provides paraplegics with both a home and an opportunity to work and earn money through the production of woodwork and handicrafts.
