Shaykh Nizam Yaquby
Shaykh Nizam Yaquby is an active scholar in the Islamic banking industry, and acts as an independent consultant based in Bahrain. He has a BA in Economics and Comparative Religion from McGill University (Canada), and is currently completing his PhD in Islamic law at University of Wales (UK).
Dr. Mohamed A. Elgari
As an established Islamic economist, Dr. Elgari teaches, writes and works with several institutions in the field. He received his PhD in Economics from University of California (USA), and is currently on the faculty of King Abdulaziz University (Jeddah).
Dr. M. Imran Usmani
Dr. Imran Usmani holds a PhD in Islamic Finance. He has also obtained degrees of Alimiyyah and Takhassus (specialization in Islamic jurisprudence) from Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi. He teaches at Darul Uloom and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.

Dr. K.H. M.A. Sahal Mahfudh (Chairman)
K.H. Sahal is the Chairman of Indonesian Ulemma Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia - MUI), Chairman of Syariah National Committee (Dewan Syariah Nasional - DSN) and Rais Am Nadhlatul Ulama. He lives in Pati, Central Java and is active in his Pondok Pesantren Maslakul Huda. He had the privilege to study in Mecca under direct guidance from Shaykh Yasin Al-Fadani and had obtained Doctor Honoris Causa from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Jakarta.
Prof. Dr. H.M. Din Syamsuddin
Prof. Din is the Vice General Chairman for the MUI as well as the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah. He is a Professor at Islamic Political Thought of Faculty of Ushuluddin and Graduate Program at UIN Jakarta. Prof. Din earned his doctorate degrees from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), United States, in Islamic Political Thought. Prior to that, he studied at the Faculty of Ushuluddin, majoring in Religion Comparison at IAIN Syariah Hidayatullah and at the Kulliyatul Muallimin Al Islamiyah at Pondok Modern Gontor, East Java.
Ikhwan Abidin Basri, M.Sc
Mr. Ikhwan is a member of Syariah National Committee (DSN). He is also member of Shariah Supervisory Boards at several banks in Indonesia. He obtained Bachelor of Science degree in Islamic Economics from International Institute of Islamic Economics, International Islamic University, Pakistan. He also obtained Master of Science degree from the same Institute. He also holds Master of Art degree in Islamic Studies at Jami’ah Salafiyah, Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan.
Local Regulator
Bank Indonesia
Bank Indonesia through the Directorate of Shariah Banking oversee and regulates the Syariah Banking Industry. Bank Indonesia roles and responsibilities are, among others; issue business license for Syariah Bank, conduct general audit to Syariah banks, and issue regulations related to the Syariah Bank industries.
Dewan Syariah Nasional (DSN)
Institution formed by the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) with main roles to deal with Syariah financial institution activities, i.e. to supervise, review, and formulate Syariah principles into a fatwa, so that it can be used as a guideline in Syariah financial transaction.
Dewan Pengawas Syariah (DPS)
The main role of DPS is to supervise the Syariah Financial Institution activities in order to be in accordance with the DSN Fatwa.
