Through the stages of product development, fund segregation and Syariah review, our Syariah advisors ensure that our services are free of interest and within the guidelines for commerce, finance and investment that are prescribed by the Syariah (Islamic law).

The HSBC Amanah central Syariah Supervisory Committee reviews institutional transactions and new products for global distribution. Four scholars of international repute, well versed in both Islamic law and modern finance, serve on this committee :

Shaykh Nizam Yaquby

Shaykh Nizam Yaquby and is an active scholar in the Islamic banking industry, and acts as an independent consultant based in Bahrain. He has a BA in Economics and Comparative Religion from McGill University (Canada), and is currently completing his PhD in Islamic law at University of Wales (UK).

Dr. Mohamed A. Elgari

As an established Islamic economist, Dr. Elgari teaches, writes and works with several institutions in the field. He received his PhD in Economics from University of California (USA), and is currently on the faculty of King Abdulaziz University (Jeddah).

Dr. M. Imran Usmani

Dr. Imran Usmani holds a PhD in Islamic Finance. He has also obtained degrees of Alimiyyah and Takhassus (specialization in Islamic jurisprudence) from Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi. He teaches at Darul Uloom and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
